Alma College handed Hope College its first loss of the season, opening the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association with an overtime win Saturday at Hope.

Carter St. John threw a 2-yard TD pass to Miles Haggert for the 29-26 overtime win after Hope settled for a 30-yard field goal by Caden Balkon in its possession.

Alma took a 14-0 lead after one quarter on a 1-yard TD run by Eddie Williams, a senior from Fraser. St. John followed with a 70-yard TD pass to Zach Poff, a senior from Ithaca.

Hope took a 16-14 halftime lead on a 22-yard TD pass from Alex Thole to Trevor Griffiths and a 3-yard TD pass from Thole to Billy Sternberg. Blakon ended the first-half scoring with a 25-yard field goal.
