Novice shooters got a chance to try shooting sports for Provincial Hunting Day on Sept. 27.
To mark the day, the Alberta Hunters Education Instructors Association holds an annual event for novices and youth at the Calgary Firearms Centre & Conservation Education Centre located near the hamlet of DeWinton.
There, AHEIA instructors were on hand to help visitors with no previous experience or exposure to try hunting clay shooting, archery, or even tying fishing flies or building a moose call.
“Ultimately, hunting and the pursuit of any kind of bird or game animal in the outdoors gets people outside,” said AHEIA chairman Robert Gruszecki. “So we want to make wildlife and wild places part of peoples’ value system.”
At the request of the association in 2007, Minister of Sustainable Resource
