Tributes for John Smith, who perished in Sept. 18 fishing accident off Hatteras coast

Family, friends and the fishing community are remembering John Smith, who died in a fishing accident near Hatteras Inlet on Sept. 18.

A Sept. 22 statement from the North Carolina Fisheries Associate stated that, “last week we lost a great man in our fishing community. John was not only a loving husband and father, and one of the best fishermen around – John was a true disciple of God. His mission in life was to find and bring out the good in everyone, even when others could not see it. He listened, helped, and touched the lives of so many people.”
