SAN FRANCISCO — Nearly 60 million pounds of corn dog products are being recalled after five people were injured due to "pieces of wood" being in the batter, according to a health alert issued Saturday.

The Hillshire Brands Company says pieces of wood could be in the batter of their corn dog and sausage on a stick products made between March 17 and Sept. 26.

They were sold online and shipped to retail and food service locations nationwide, according to the recall alert.

The recalled products have an establishment number of “EST-582” or “P-894” printed on the packaging, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.

Their labels include the Jimmy Dean and State Fair brands. These products may be in freezers or refrigerators.
