OXFORD, Miss. — Garrett Nussmeier seemed poised to deliver LSU another memorable season from a second-year starting quarterback.

The fifth-year senior had shown flashes of brilliance in his first season with the Tigers. He was following in the footsteps of Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels, stars who won the Heisman Trophy in their second year at the helm of LSU's offense.

But the first five games of Nussmeier's 2025 campaign haven't lived up to that promise, at least not yet.

LSU dropped its first game of the season on Saturday, falling 24-19 to Ole Miss at Vaught Hemingway Stadium.
