GLOCESTER – After graduating 18 seniors and nearly every starter from its Division III Super Bowl winning team last fall, this season was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the Ponaganset football team.
Guess you can throw that idea right out the window.
With two bruising backs in Lyric Picard and Zach Rocchio, a relentless defense and line that lacks experience but has plenty of size, the Chieftains look like a team very much intent on winning another title. They started slow Friday against Cranston East, but took over the game, won in the trenches in the second quarter, and cruised to a 21-6 win over the Thunderbolts to improve to 3-0 this fall.
