LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Kentucky Derby-winning horse Mystik Dan finished on top at the $500,000 Lukas Classic on Sunday despite having a substitute rider in the saddle.

Francisco Arrieta took the reins for the four-year-old colt after Brian Hernandez Jr. suffered a fall that left him in the ICU last weekend. Hernandez had previously ridden Mystik Dan in all but two of his starts.

This didn’t stop Mystik Dan from returning to Churchill Down’s winner’s circle for the fourth time as he took first by three-quarters of a length in the twelfth running of the Lukas Classic, and the first edition since the death of trainer D. Wayne Lukas earlier this year.
