Protesters clashed with police in Lima on Saturday as they tried to reach Peru’s National Congress during the third march organized by the group known as “Generation Z.”
This time, the transport workers’ union — demanding greater security amid a wave of extortion targeting drivers — joined the students’ calls.
Clashes began when a group of protesters tried to push past barriers where police were blocking access to the Congress building.
Shops near the Congress had closed their doors for fear of a repeat of the unrest that occurred during a similar protest last weekend.
