STANFORD — Sedrick Irvin scored on a 1-yard run with 19 seconds left as Stanford topped San Jose State 30-29 Saturday night at Stanford Stadium.
The Cardinal (2-3) drove 80 yards for the winning score, highlighted by a 34-yard pass from Ben Gulbranson to Caden High on fourth-and-10 from the Stanford 41.
San Jose State (1-3) had a chance for a go-ahead field goal, but safety Jay Smith broke up a pass at the Stanford 27 with five seconds left.
Gulbranson, an Oregon State transfer, had his most productive day as a Cardinal, completing 29 of 43 passes for 444 yards and two TDs. CJ Williams (12 catches for 138 yards) had his second straight 100-yard game, while High had 110 yards on five catches.
