For Sabrina Wiffler, every step at the Trail of Truth on the National Mall carries the weight of someone she loved.
“This is my nephew, Kristopher. We lost him at the age of 20 to heroin,” she said. “We try to tell as many stories as we can, get their information out there, hopefully it will save somebody else the heartache that we’ve all been through.”

Wiffler traveled from Missouri to join families from across the country. Together, they’ve created the third national trail of truth, a sea of nearly 4,000 hand-painted memorial tombstones each carrying a name, a face and story of a person lost to substance use.
The daylong event included performances, speeches, healing circles and a free naloxone training.
“Our folks,
