A former Texas special education teacher and ex-clown accused of fatally shooting his wife downed drugs and dropped dead in court moments before receiving a decades-long prison sentence for murder.

James Paul Anderson, 39, suffered a medical emergency on Friday shortly after arriving at Criminal Justice Center in Houston, where he was going to be slapped with a 35-year stretch behind bars for killing 34-year-old Victoria Anderson in 2023, according to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

“Preliminary info is that a defendant ingested drugs while awaiting sentencing at the criminal courthouse and was rushed away in ambulance,” Harris County Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen posted on X. 4
