MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The museum that looks like a boat keeps floating a decade later. The National Maritime Museum of the Gulf marked its 10th anniversary Saturday.

People flooded through the front door of the maritime museum, taking in the big exhibits, showcasing big jobs. The museum holds a dual mission to educate as well as entertain.

"Half the building is event space and half of the building is a museum. We're 98,000 square feet, roughly altogether. The event space is is beautiful. If anything, we just didn't market it. People didn't know it was here," Museum Executive Director Karen Poth said.

It hasn't all been smooth sailing for the maritime museum. Back when it was called GulfQuest, the museum closed after a little more than a year due to low attendance and financial difficult
