A Bay Shore man caused a chain-reaction crash Saturday involving a dozen cars stopped in traffic in Shirley and then fled the scene, only to be arrested later, Suffolk County police said.

At 2:40 p.m., Walter Goya Trujillo, 33, slammed his 2012 Jeep into traffic stopped on the northbound lanes of the William Floyd Parkway near Montauk Highway, smashing several cars that in turn smashed other stopped cars, police said. Besides Goya Trujillo’s Jeep, 11 other vehicles were struck, according to authorities.

He then fled on foot, but was caught soon after, police said.

Goya Trujillo and two other drivers were taken to hospitals for injuries that were not life-threatening .
