Para archer Sheetal Devi etched her name into the history books on Saturday. She won a gold medal in the individual compound event at the Para World Archery Championship, becoming the first-ever armless woman to win a world championship.
At the event held in South Korea, the Indian athlete defeated world No. 1 Oznur Cure Girdi of Turkey in an intense final, clinching victory with a score of 146-143.
This landmark win makes Devi only the second armless archer in the world to claim gold at a World Championship. The first was American Paralympic Archer Matt Stutzman, who won at the 2022 championships in Dubai.
