Three people were killed and eight others injured when a shooter opened fire from a boat at the American Fish Company restaurant in Southport, North Carolina, on Saturday night. The incident occurred around 9:30 PM local time at the popular waterfront eatery, located in the Southport Yacht Basin, approximately 20 miles south of Wilmington.
Witnesses reported that a white center console boat approached the restaurant and began firing into a crowd of diners before fleeing the scene. City officials confirmed that at least seven people were shot, with three pronounced dead at the scene. The remaining victims were rushed to local hospitals, but their conditions have not been disclosed.
City Manager Noah Saldo stated, "Several people were taken to the hospital," and noted that the number of victims might change as emergency services continue their response. Authorities have launched a manhunt for the shooter and are questioning a person of interest, although no arrests have been made yet.
In response to the shooting, Southport town officials issued urgent warnings for residents to stay indoors and report any suspicious activity. A public statement advised, "Avoid the area and remain in your homes. Please report any suspicious activity immediately to 911."
The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the Southport Police Department, along with other law enforcement agencies, in managing the situation. The sheriff’s office urged the community to keep those affected and first responders in their thoughts and prayers. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and locate any additional suspects.
