EAST LANSING – The Michigan State volleyball program was off to a terrific start under first-year coach Kristen Kelsay, going 10-0 in the non-conference, the best start to a first-year coach in program history.
The Spartans opened up Big Ten play on the road at No. 12 Minnesota, suffering a straight set loss for the first blemish of the season. MSU had a chance to bounce back on Sept. 27, facing rival Michigan in front of a packed Breslin Center.
MSU's squad fed off the electric atmosphere in a relatively dominant first set win, then withstood two tough comebacks from the Wolverines to win the second and third sets, completing a sweep of Michigan for Kelsay's first conference win.
