NEW DELHI: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday questioned the role of the police and the state government in the deadly stampede that claimed 39 lives during a political event organised by actor and TVK chief Vijay in Karur, Tamil Nadu. After meeting with the victims and families of deceased, speaking to reporters, Palaniswami said, "Yesterday, 39 people lost their lives. We were informed that the stampede occurred because of an electric current. Such a campaign was previously held in four districts, and the police should have provided adequate security.
