The setting of Daniel Mason’s “North Woods” is a generous habitat, offering refuge and solitude to generations of guests. Two lovers find paradise, a farmer finds his passion, and a painter finds his muse. But there is one man who finds no peace, for whom the woods are fraught with layers of meaning.
