(CNN) - Shortly before she died in 2024, Maria Branyas Morera became the world’s oldest living person.
The U.S.-born Spanish woman lived to the age of 117 years and 168 days.
Newly released research may offer clues as to the reasons for her longevity.
Researchers used blood and other biological samples and examined her genome.
Overall, the research team credited her longevity equally to a healthy lifestyle and very good genetics.
She liked to work, lived in the countryside, did moderate exercise and never drank alcohol or smoked.
Her diet included olive oil and Mediterranean-style food. She also ate three servings of yogurt a day.
Researchers think this habit may have kept her gut microbiome resembling that of a much younger person.
