Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-politician Vijay, has approached the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court seeking an independent investigation into the deadly stampede at its Karur rally.

The incident, which killed 40 people, including 10 children, is being described by the party as a “planned conspiracy.”

TVK alleges that stone-pelting and a police lathi-charge triggered the chaos. Eyewitnesses reported a power outage, narrow access roads, and a sudden crowd surge just before Vijay’s arrival, leading to panic and suffocation. Post-mortem reports confirmed asphyxiation as the cause of death.
