HAMLET OF WALLKILL – A small plane crashed on takeoff from Kobelt Airport in the hamlet of Wallkill around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

State Police said the pilot, the sole person on-board, was killed. The did not release the victim’s name. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been notified and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) confirmed on social media that they are investigating the crash of a Glasair Super II FT airplane.

The crash created a brush fire requiring fire department response for both the plane crash and the fire.
