Nine million pensioners can expect to receive letters during October outlining financial support they will be receiving over winter.

The DWP will be contacting households to let them know about Winter Fuel Payments, worth up to £300.

It comes as new qualifying rules have been confirmed, so millions more pensioners will get the winter allowance this year.

So the letters may come as a surprise if people weren't aware of the changes.
