ORLANDO, Fla. – Tropical Depression Nine is strengthening over the Bahamas and is expected to become a tropical storm through Sunday as it tracks parallel to Florida’s east coast through Monday.
A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for coastal areas of east-central Florida. Conditions will begin to deteriorate rapidly this evening and into the start of the week.

Rain chances will steadily rise Sunday as the system organizes, with bands of scattered showers and storms moving in from the Bahamas. The heaviest rainfall is expected tonight into Monday, especially along the immediate coast, where rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are likely, and isolated areas could see up to 5 inches. This could lead to minor flooding in poor drainage areas.
