IOWA CITY — With Zach Lutmer’s interception of Fernando Mendoza, it felt like there was magic brewing, something the Iowa football program has done so well under head coach Kirk Ferentz.

The Hawkeyes ’ defense got pressure on Mendoza, forcing the Indiana quarterback to throw his first interception of the season. With the Sept. 27 game tied in the fourth quarter, Lutmer returned it to the Indiana 29-yard line.

With each team playing flawed games, the Hawkeyes were knocking on the door of upsetting the 12th-ranked Hoosiers.

Except, they didn’t.

Drew Stevens missed a 42-yard field goal. On the ensuing drive, Mendoza proceeded to hit receiver Elijah Sarratt for a 49-yard touchdown.

The Hoosiers escaped Iowa City with a 20-15 victory.
