NEW YORK — Cam Schlittler reported to Yankees camp this spring as a non-roster invitee destined to begin the regular season in Double-A Somerset. He was arguably the 10th pitcher on the Yankees’ starting pitching depth chart at that point.

Seven months later, with seven shutout innings and a career-high nine strikeouts against the Orioles on Saturday afternoon, Schlittler put a bow on what’s been a remarkable first impression in pinstripes, effectively locking up his spot as the Yankees’ No. 3 starter for the postseason.

“Him coming up and being another real piece in our in our rotation shouldn’t be understated,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “He’s done a heck of a job.”
