The opening ceremony of the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, Assam, will include a musical tribute to the state’s cultural icon Zubeen Garg, who recently passed away in tragic circumstances. The Assan Cricket Association (ACA) has also arranged for the distribution of 5,000 free tickets to Garg’s fans for the opening match between co-hosts India and Sri Lanka.

Prominent state artistes, such as Angarag Papon Mahanta and Joi Barua, as well as the Shillong Chamber Choir, will perform the tribute, according to news agency PTI , which quoted Assam Cricket Association (ACA) officials as saying. The musical tribute will be a 40-minute special presentation during the inaugural ceremony.
