MINNEAPOLIS — After throwing his second touchdown pass of the day to give his current team a 14-0 lead over his former team, Athan Kaliakmanis jogged toward the student section at Huntington Bank Stadium that once cheered for him and gestured toward his ear.

The Rutgers quarterback could not hear them because he just silenced them.

But in the end, it was the 46,234 fans in maroon and gold who were celebrating. Kaliakmanis started off hot against Minnesota, but he and the Scarlet Knights (3-2, 0-2) left Minneapolis with a 31-28 loss to the Golden Gophers (3-1, 1-0) on Saturday.

“Definitely tough,” Kaliakmanis said. “Games like these, it’s hard when it comes down to that and you lose.”

Kaliakmanis finished with a solid stat line (249 yards and two touchdowns on 21-of-34 passing)
