The Southport community will be gathering to pray and remember the victims of a mass shooting that occurred in the small seaside community Saturday night.

The vigil, organized by the Southport Fire Department, will be held at Southport Baptist Church, 200 N. Howe St., Southport, N.C., at 6 p.m.

“Prayer can help our community heal,” the Southport Fire Department said in a Facebook post.

The event follows a mass shooting that occurred at an outdoor bar in the Southport Yacht Basin around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28. According to a new release from the city of Southport, three people were killed and at least eight were injured in the shooting.
