GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Tropical Depression 9 has formed near Cuba. It’s expected to become a tropical storm sometime Sunday. It gradually strengthens from the Bahamas through Monday and then as it moves over the warm waters of the Gulf Stream, it intensifies into a Category 1 storm Monday night or early Tuesday off the coast of Florida. The next name on the list is Imelda.
The latest trend in the data is a positive one, but it still doesn’t keep the Carolinas completely in the clear. What we are seeing is the system approaching the coast of South Carolina Tuesday and then taking a turn east and heading out to sea without making landfall in the US. This would keep the worst of the storm off-shore.
