COLUMBUS, Ohio — The cast and crew of the upcoming short film "The First Day of School" are focusing their talents on bringing awareness to the growing threat of violence in schools.

Penned by central Ohio filmmaker Shane Thompson, the story’s script has already garnered accolades and awards in writing competitions and film festivals from around the country.

“I wanted to tell a story that really brings awareness to the problem of violence in our schools,” said Thompson, a former full-time educator who serves as not only the short film’s writer, but as a producer and co-director on the project. “I’ve unfortunately seen the fear in a child’s eyes when there’s even a threat of a violent act happening throughout their school day.”
