Those who don't set their heating to a timer will want their homes to be warmed up as quickly as possible.

And it can be tempting to whack the thermostat up high to try to make this happen.

But experts warn this won't make any difference - and will only result in you spending more money.

Turning up the thermostat high won't warm a home any quicker, it just sets a higher target temperature for it to eventually get to.

Homeowners should set the temperature they want to aim for - usually advised to be around 18C to 20C.
