KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Multiple people were hospitalized early Sunday morning after a hit-and-run crash in east Kansas City.

According to the Kansas City Police Department, at about 2:15 a.m., officers were called to the area of East 24th Street and Jackson Avenue on reports of an injury crash.

Initial investigations reveal that a driver of a sedan had been driving southbound on Jackson Avenue, toward East 24th Street, at the same time a Dodge 1500 pickup truck was turning east off of Jackson, onto 24th Street.

As the truck started to turn, the sedan attempted to pass it, resulting in a crash. After the crash, the truck left the scene and continued eastbound on East 24th Street.

Police said the sedan came to a rest and was "wrapped around a utility pole."
