A suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with the mass shooting that occurred in Southport on Saturday, Sept. 27.

On Sunday, Sept. 28, Southport Police Chief Todd Coring confirmed that Nigel Max Edge, 40, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder and five counts of common law-attempted first-degree murder. Brunswick County Detention Center records show Edge was booked into the jail early Sunday morning where he is being held with no bond.

Edge, who previously went by the name Sean DeBevoise, is a Marine veteran who was wounded in Iraq in 2006. While serving as a sniper, he was shot in the head and hip, ankle and shoulder, according to previous StarNews reporting .
