Darts legend Michael van Gerwen has tried to play down footage of a kebab shop brawl that went viral.

The three-time world champion was the subject of a video that circulated on Snapchat showing him in a physical altercation.

Punches could be seen being thrown, although it’s not clear who from and towards in the grainy footage.

Bystanders could be heard saying: "Stop, stop, stop, stop! Get out, get out,” and then an angry Van Gerwen emerges from the scramble.

Now addressing the incident in an interview with Darts News, the Dutchman said: “After an enjoyable night out, we wanted to grab something to eat, and unfortunately I ended up in a situation you'd rather avoid.

“The man came at me from the kitchen, not the other way round, following a verbal exchange.
