Bill Parcells wasn’t on the Patriots staff during their dynasty years, but he helped spotlight the franchise from 1993-96 — particularly when New England had the No. 1 overall pick in the 1993 NFL Draft.

The Patriots selected Drew Bledsoe, but it wasn’t so cut and dry when it came to drafting the quarterback. And he might not have ever been part of the franchise had it not been for Parcells.

“I had a little contention with the personnel director at the time named Charley Armey,” Parcells said during his appearance on the “ Pats from the Past .” podcast. “He felt like (Rick) Mirer was safer pick, but I watched every pass that Drew Bledsoe threw on film for two years. I watched every pass he threw. When I was done with that reel, I was convinced that’s who I wanted.”
