The Cottagers were beaten 3-1 by Aston Villa despite taking the lead after just three minutes.

Raul Jimenez's opener was cancelled out by Ollie Watkins before two goals in two minutes from John McGinn and Emiliano Buendia.

However, the visitors could have been out of sight before Watkins ' equaliser after two penalty shouts were waved away.

On both occasions, referee Andy Madley's on-field decision was backed up by VAR following a review.
