Tumbleweeds would not have seemed out of place around the ICE building in South Portland on Sunday morning.
About 24 hours after news broke that President Donald Trump had ordered federal troops into Portland to protect immigration agents “under siege by attack from Antifa,” two protesters stood across the street from the ICE facility, one with a handmade sign.
“I think everybody is universally confused about the escalation that we’re getting from the federal government, and we all think that it’s kind of unbelievable,” one of the demonstrators, Mackenzie Eikamp, told The Oregonian/OregonLive.
The street outside the ICE building on Macadam Avenue has consistently seen a couple dozen protesters every day for the past two months, and the demonstrations typically have been loud but peace
