For years, perhaps generations, the American Ryder Cup team has relied on a talent advantage to overcome a team disadvantage. The more skillful and accomplished U.S. side being able to counter-act the teamsmanship and natural ease of European camaraderie.
The biggest problem for the U.S. is that its talent advantage has thinned to a point that, before play started at Bethpage Black, it was hard to look up and down the two rosters and see any real U.S. advantage.
