Virginia State Police announced on Sunday an arrest has been made in the cold-case investigation of the 1998 murder of Sylena Jo Dalton in Strasburg.
Daniel Edward Pompell, 56, of Culpeper, was arrested and charged with one count of murder, according to a news release issued Sunday afternoon.
Agents with the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Culpeper Field Office, took Pompell into custody without incident, the release states. The arrest marks a major step in the 27-year investigation, the release states.
Pompell is being held without bond at Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail.
