SANTA FE, N.M. —

New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham's new flower garden at the Governor's Mansion has earned the heartfelt thanks of Susana Martinez, the last person to hold her office

The garden, now planted with dahlias, pays tribute to the former governor's sister, Leticia "Lettie" Martinez, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and died in 2021 at age 64.

Martinez issued a statement that said, "It means so much to me that such a beautiful lasting gesture was made in her honor. To see this garden now as a place where we can come together and remember all those we've lost is truly special."

Martinez, a Republican, served two terms, from 2011-2019. She was the first woman governor of New Mexico and the first Hispanic governor in the U.S.
