UPDATE: A second victim has died after the mass shooting at a Michigan church, police said.

GENESEE COUNTY, MI – A man drove through the front door of a church during Sunday service, exited his vehicle and opened fire.

The church shooting left one victim dead and nine others injured, police said during a Sunday afternoon press conference.

The gunman, identified only as a 40-year-old Burton man, was fatally shot after exchanging gunfire with Grand Blanc Township police.

An active shooter was reported at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4285 McCandlish Road, in Grand Blanc.

Grand Blanc Township police Chief William Renye provided additional details Sunday afternoon surrounding what he called a “completely unnecessary and avoidable” incident.
