HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A suspect is in custody after shooting at a METRO police officer and evading arrest on Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

According to preliminary information, a METRO police officer tried to make a traffic stop near 1500 Wentworth around 4 p.m.

Police say the suspect displayed a weapon, fired a shot, and attempted to evade. An exchange of gunfire followed, and one officer sustained a grazing injury, investigators said.

METRO said the officer and the suspect were taken to the hospital. The officer is reportedly in stable condition, and the suspect is in custody.
