A group of demonstrators gathered outside Orlando City Hall on Sunday, using chalk art to demand visibility and support for the queer community.
Organizers described the demonstration as a continuation of recent protests at the Pulse nightclub site, where they say their art is a statement of resilience.
“This is and has always been about the erasure of queer visibility,” said protester Chris Blem. “This is our freedom to be who we are in this country. No one is infringing upon anybody’s rights.”
The latest protest comes after the Florida Department of Transportation painted over the rainbow-colored crosswalk near the Pulse memorial earlier this month. Activists say that the decision sparked renewed calls for visibility and support.
