A man operating a recreational aircraft has died when the gyrocopter crashed on a regional property, sparking a fire.
Emergency services were called to the regional Queensland property in Nebo Creek, almost 100 kilometres southwest of Mackay, at 6pm on September 28 after reports of an aircraft crash.
The 47-year-old pilot, who was the sole occupant of the aircraft, died at the scene, police said.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) confirmed that the pilot was operating a gyrocopter, a type of light-weight rotorcraft.
Gyrocopters resemble a small helicopter with an unpowered, free-spinning main rotor above the cockpit and a propeller on the rear or front of the fuselage.
