Two recent audits have raised concerns about transparency and oversight in Maryland’s state government.

A review of the Social Services Administration found the agency failed to implement criminal background check protocols, meaning foster children could be placed near individuals on the sex offender registry. Meanwhile, an audit of the State Highway Administration revealed it “knowingly charged” more than $350 million in unauthorized projects and tried to mask the true balance of the Transportation Trust Fund.

Democratic Gov. Wes Moore has blamed some of the problems on previous administrations, but pressure is mounting for him and his team to show how they’ll prevent similar failures in the future. What do you think?
