Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has described the International Emmy nominations for Amar Singh Chamkila as a blessing and a reminder that deeply local stories can resonate with audiences around the world.
Based on the life of slain Punjabi musician Amar Singh Chamkila, the film has earned two nominations: one in the TV Movie/Mini-Series category, and another for Best Performance by an Actor, recognising lead star Diljit Dosanjh.
Ali said he was proud that the film, which premiered on Netflix in 2024 to critical acclaim, had brought India into the global spotlight alongside international heavyweights.
“We had just come back from dinner when we got the news... It’s like a blessing that has come through with the story of Chamkila to us. Very happy that this film is finding a voice and is being seen,
