SPOKANE, Wash. — On Sunday afternoon, the Bethany Presbyterian Church, located on Spokane's South Hill, held a special land dedication ceremony to mark the beginning of a new chapter.

The event kicked off the demolition that will begin this fall of the existing building.

Project leaders say 22 units of affordable housing are a part of the major initiative, with a focus on refugees and homeless families. A worship and community space are also included in the building plans.

Many of the church members are excited for the new units.

"We are very excited and, this today, says, we are dedicating this land to that purpose, and we fill this is the very first foot forward in the process," said Sharon Smith.
