SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WITN) - Reactions are starting to pour in from the Southport community following the deadly mass shooting.

A local favorite in Southport, the American Fish Company, turned into a crime scene Saturday night after officials say 40-year-old Nigel Edge shot multiple patrons at the bar from a boat, killing three and leaving five injured.

“Things like this don’t happen in Southport,” resident Scott Rivers said.

A memorial of flowers could be seen outside the bar this afternoon as the community stopped by to pay their respects.

“We were absolutely shocked to hear what had happened in this beautiful, hallmark town,” American Fish Company regular Mireille Mullians said. “You don’t expect these things to happen in Southport.”
