CLEVELAND, Ohio (WJW) -- Cleveland Guardians fans at Progressive Field on Sunday witnessed something special.
An improbable end to an improbable season. A historic comeback from a team that had no real mathematical chance to even make the playoffs on September 1, given only a 0.2 chance of winning Major League Baseball's Central Division championship.
But they did.
After clinching a wildcard spot with the league's first "hit by pitch" forced run of the season on Saturday, the Guardians only needed to beat the stubborn Texas Rangers on Sunday to clinch the division for a second consecutive year.
Well into the game, however, fans in the ballpark were already aware that the title was theirs by way of a Boston Red Sox win over the Detroit Tigers.
So, the Guardians did not even have to win
