Recent departures have left the United Auto Workers with vacancies in key roles overseeing compliance and ethics just as the union faces intense scrutiny over those same issues from a federal government watchdog.

The UAW's compliance director said she resigned for personal reasons this month, while its ethics officer — an independent external position created five years ago in the wake of the Detroit-based union's corruption scandal — left earlier this summer, also for what she said were personal reasons.
